The USDA estimates Indonesia’s soybean meal (sbm) consumption will reach 5.4mt this year, up from 5.35mt in 2021/22. Demand from the feed industry, driven mainly by the poultry industry which consumes about 90% of Indonesia’s animal feed, is expected to grow along with increased poultry meat consumption, said the agency. Indonesia’s feed industry utilizes sbm at an inclusion rate of 25% for poultry feed, 30-40% for aquafeed, and 15% for swine feed. Meanwhile, sbm imports, mostly from South America, are estimated to reach 5.4mt in 2022/23.
