Iloilo province holds back pig repopulation

After being declared an ASF red zone in October 2022, Iloilo province in the Philippines is moving toward recovery but holding back on approving repopulation. Provincial Veterinarian Dr Darel Tabuada told Asian Agribiz they would only authorize repopulation of infected areas after they finish the risk assessment, and all municipalities tighten biosecurity. He added that distribution of sentinel pigs would proceed after that. Iloilo is a major contributor of pork to Luzon, so the supply in the big island is also affected.
