Philippine pork production to rise in 2023

Pork production in the Philippines is expected to increase this year, despite the twin challenges of ASF and rising imports. A USDA report projects production to increase by 8% to 1mt with bigger pigs compared to 2021’s 925,000 tons. Additionally, the industry sees a ‘glimmer of hope’ after a local distributor of Avac Vietnam’s ASF vaccine requested a special permit from the Philippine Food and Drug Administration to conduct local trials. However, the USDA assumes the current situation of no vaccine will persist, and imports will continue to meet local demand.
