Pakistan feedmillers and poultry farmers held a protest in Karachi over the blockage of GM soybean and canola meal shipments. Faizan Ghani, Managing Director of GS Agro Feeds, told Asian Agribiz that around 300,000 tons of soybean has been offloaded, but a similar quantity remains stuck at Karachi port. The shipments have been held back by customs since October, as the government insists that GM soybean is banned in Pakistan. “Feedmills are running out of stock, and we are facing a huge crisis in production if we do not resolve this soon,” he said.
