Producers must boost taste of alternative proteins

Opportunities in plant-based proteins are present in Thailand, but producers must make the products taste and look more meat-like. A survey of 1000 Thais in August by Marketbuzz showed that 68% eat regular diets with meat, while one-third consume alternative diets, primarily vegetables. About 65% intend to eat less meat, especially women and those aged 45 years or older, due to health issues. Marketbuzz CEO Grant Bertoli said the pandemic heightened health consciousness, driving the growth of plant-based protein sales. More brands have entered the market.
