CPF promotes renewable energy at pig farms

Thailand’s CP Foods (CPF) is promoting green practices at its company-owned pig farms and contract farms by using renewable energy like biogas and solar power. Somporn Jermpong, Executive Vice President, said CPF manages the waste at farms with its biogas systems, which generate electricity, reducing electricity costs by 50-80% and reducing 370,000 tons of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions annually. CPF has also installed solar cells at five farms, producing 1.3 megawatts (MW) of electricity. Six more farms are planned in phase two.
