Philippines considers relaxing import ban on poultry

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is looking to relax its import ban on poultry products to help contain rising prices. Former DA Secretary William Dar said that the poultry industry is facing a “double-edge sword,” with higher demand on one hand, and lower local chicken meat and egg production on the other. He said the lower output results from producers holding back on production because of several factors, including diseases and rising prices of inputs, particularly feeds. The country has existing bans on several countries due to avian influenza.
