Meat imports will help fuel cold chain investments in the Philippines over the next few years, said the Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food Inc (PCAFI). PCAFI President Danilo Fausto said imports will remain high because of “lower prices, improved cold chain, and consumer preference for frozen meat.” He added that pork imports will continue to increase to meet domestic demand, which local production cannot fully supply. “This will be facilitated by the relaxing of the current government position on imports to control retail prices,” Mr Fausto remarked.
