Sri Lanka layer farmers are losing USD 0.028 on every egg produced in the last two months, Sarath Rathnayake, President of the All Ceylon Egg Producers Association, told Asian Agribiz. Raw material costs, especially of corn and broken rice that are staples in layer diets, have reached peak levels. “At present, the layer industry has been cut down by 40%. If this trend continues, only 20-30% of the industry will survive,” he said. He also predicted a further rise in egg prices if the trend continues.
