Chicken and egg prices up over 13% yoy in Malaysia

The Department of Statistics Malaysia announced average prices of chicken and eggs in the country rose 13.6% to USD 2.28/kg from USD 2.01/kg a year earlier. This was due to heavy rains that induced supply shortages and prices. Malaysia’s inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index increased 3.2% in December 2021 compared to 2020 mainly due to a rise in food and fuel prices and the base effect, the department said.
