Brazil, India target Southeast Asia’s beef market

Brazil and India are targeting Southeast Asia’s beef market after losing access to China. In an ABC Rural report, Simon Quilty of Global Agritrends said this could seriously impact Australia’s live cattle trade. For example, Indonesia, a key market for Australia, reduced its live cattle imports significantly last year. However, data suggests that it has been filling the gap by importing more frozen beef. “Brazil stepped into this market last year. I see this trend continuing this year with cheaper Brazilian beef and also Indian buffalo meat,” Mr Quilty said.
