Thaifoods to expand its pig business in Thailand

Thaifoods Group (TFG) will spend USD 75 million to build its pig business with three PS farms with a combined capacity of 15,000 heads in Thailand next year. It currently has 70,000 breeders. TFG COO Phet Nantavisai told Asian Agribiz that the company plans to sell 140,000-150,000 tons of live pigs and pork in 2022. “We see opportunities amid shrinking supply. This will also support our retail shops,” he said. Live pig production in Thailand fell 25% to 15 million this year and is expected to decrease 10-15% next year. This will lead to pork shortage and higher prices, Mr Phet said.
