Asia has long led in vegetarianism and vegan diets, mostly for cultural and religious reasons. Our menus and offerings are diverse, nourishing and now, more than before, almost ready to eat. When plant-based offerings began to muster hype in the last five years in Asia, at a ridiculous price too, the uptake was mainly by the adventurous and economically wealthy.
Now however, recognizing the growing opportunities in Asia and the new consumer’s penchant for plant-based options, more large animal protein producers are jumping on the vegetarian and vegan bandwagon.
Their offerings are innovative and are aimed at mirroring the meat-eating experience both in taste and form. Better still, the pricing is a lot more digestible and the offerings spell ‘convenience’.
