Vietnamese farmers reduce sow numbers on low demand

The low pig prices in Vietnam have led to difficulties in maintaining breeding herds, prompting farmers to reduce sow numbers. The average live pig price, currently USD 1.85/kg, is below production cost, discouraging farmers from restocking. The Ha Tinh Provincial Department of Animal Health said producers have difficulty with higher feed and disease prevention costs while pork demand is down. However, local authorities are convincing farmers to maintain production to ensure sufficient supply.
