Philippine pig production down in Q3

Philippine pig production contracted 17.8% year-on-year in Q3 2021. Data from the Statistics Authority show that July-September production topped 418,000 tons compared to 509,000 tons the year before. The Calabarzon area, south of Metro Manila, remains the leading producer, followed by Northern Mindanao and Western Visayas. Similarly, inventory fell 12.4% in Q3 to 9.87 million heads. One industry observer told Asian Agribiz that he does not see recovery just yet. “Sporadic cases of ASF continue to be reported, and some are not reported, leaving much to worry about.”
