Medivac IBH vaccine approved in Indonesia, Cambodia


Medivac IBH Emulsion from Indonesia’s animal health company Medion, were registered in Indonesia and Cambodia in July 2021.

The vaccine is claimed to be effective in preventing Inclusion Body Hepatitis (IBH) as it has passed the safety and potency tests.

The vaccine contains two Indonesian IBH viruses, which are fowl adenovirus serotypes 8b and 11 that are homolog towards the latest field viruses.

According to Medion, the first vaccination plus a booster could give protection to breeders during laying period and optimize the maternal antibody in chicks. This must be supported with good biosecurity and management practices.

IBH in Indonesia

IBH is said still occurs in Indonesia until today, raising the awareness of breeding companies and broiler producers.

In 2019, Dr Michael Haryadi Wibowo from Gadjah Mada University and his team in their research (from December 2017 to January 2019) paper stated they found 40 cases in eight provinces that were positive for fowl adenovirus, the causative agent of IBH.
