Indonesia’s South Sumatera province is targeting a 2021 corn production of 1mt from 112,000ha in five regencies. Provincial authorities will allocate funds for irrigation infrastructure, pest control, seed, and progressive assistance for farmers to achieve this goal. “Our province is the fifth biggest contributor to national corn production this year. With the program, we hope to reach the top three,” said Bambang Pramono, Head of the province’s Agriculture, Food Crops, and Horticulture agency. As of September, the province’s corn production was 707,546 tons.
