New data from SingStat shows that Singapore produced 616 million eggs last year—the highest volume across seven years. Dr William Chen, Director of the Food Science and Technology Program at Nanyang Technological University, said Singapore’s highly automated egg farms probably tempered the impact of manpower shortages due to tightened measures and quarantine restrictions amid the pandemic. Singapore is looking to produce at least 30% of its nutritional requirements locally and sustainably by 2030.
