Biosecurity and vaccination, together with good management, are key to controlling infectious bursal disease (IBD) or Gumboro in poultry.
First identified over 60 years ago, IBD remains a big concern. With a resistant virus such as IBD, control includes both prevention and protection.
“Prevention is the first line of defense,” Dr Mel Umandal, Veterinary Services Manager for Layers of Ceva Asia, told Asian Agribiz, adding that this calls for strict biosecurity and good management.
But if these fail, he pointed out, vaccination will help protect the birds from the negative impacts.
