Japfa looks to aquaculture to boost Asia’s food security

Singapore’s Japfa is eyeing aquaculture to boost food security in Asia. CEO Tan Yong Nang said the company understands the potential of aquaculture and works closely with breeding companies to find suitable species for Asia. “We must look for the Asian chicken of the sea – a good yet affordable protein that can be produced sustainably,” he said. Japfa’s integrated tilapia operations are the largest in Indonesia, with products exported to Europe and the US. It is also establishing a broodstock multiplication center to help boost Indonesia’s supply of high-quality shrimp.
