Kim Long thrives with premium feeds
Although rising raw material price is forcing feedmillers in Vietnam to increase the price of their feeds, Kim Long Livestock Producer and Feed Processing Pte Ltd sees a positive development in feed use among its customers. As the price of livestock is also high, it encourages farmers to use higher quality feeds, reports CHAKRIT RIDMONTRI.
Green Feed projects 25% increase in sales
Outbreaks of PRRS and FMD in Vietnam have caused a massive loss in the pig population. Even so, Green Feed (Vietnam) Co is confident of boosting its pig feed sales through intensive marketing and technical services, reports CHAKRIT RIDMONTRI.
Indonesia: Technology helps 8% growth
The rising price of corn has positively changed the landscape of the livestock feed industry in Indonesia. Where the country once depended heavily on imports, local supply has now taken over, although not completely writes CONNY PEREIRA.

Amino acid content in rice bran
When evaluating alternative ingredients it is important that not only price but also real nutrient content is considered, warns TORBEN GOSVIG MADSEN. When protein is evaluated it is not the crude protein as such that is important but rather the content of digestible essential amino acids.
Move to digestible amino acid formulation – part one
Clarifying terminology, methodology, and databases
Rapid and drastic changes in the supply and price of coarse grains such as corn and wheat are forcing the feed industry to change the way feeds are formulated writes ZHIRONG JIANG. Formulating on digestible amino acids (DAA) instead of total amino acids (TAA) would help companies to better cope with such changes. Concerns caused by variations in terminology, methodology, and databases, and lack of locally generated data, however, have prevented some companies in Asia to move to DAA formulation. The two articles in this series address some of these concerns. A step-by-step procedure of transforming to DAA formulation is also described.
Using NIRs to monitor quality of feedstuffs – part three
Part three of this series by Y.G. LIU and M.L. LIU illustrates feasibility and precision of using NIRs to predict apparent metabolisable energy (AMEn) for corn, soybean meal and wheat. Our comparison demonstrated that the NIRs calibrations can be used for practical diet formulation with prediction deviation up to ±3% comparing with in vivo values.
